Cornerstone Group Appoints International Public Affairs Veteran Alistair Nicholas as CEO

Cornerstone Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Alistair Nicholas as its Chief Executive Officer.

Cornerstone Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Alistair Nicholas as its Chief Executive Officer. Alistair will be responsible for driving new business, developing new service offerings for clients, and building a national and international network of affiliate partnerships for the firm. He will also provide strategic advice on government relations, public affairs, reputation management, and issues & crisis management to Cornerstone's clients.

As CEO Alistair will also be a member of the company?s Advisory Board. He will work closely with the board, including Cornerstone Founder and Executive Director Joseph Tannous, and Co-Chairmen The Hon. Dr Peter Hendy and The Hon. Simon Crean. 

Mr Tannous said: "We are looking forward to working with Alistair as his skillset and experience will significantly add to those of our board and senior management as Cornerstone moves into the next phase of its development. We're looking at broadening our service offering to include reputation management and public relations functions; and Alistair's 20 years? experience working in these areas will definitely drive these new service lines."

Alistair is an international veteran of corporate and public affairs and international business. He was most recently Executive Vice President and Director, Special Projects at the Sydney office of international firm Weber Shandwick and its public affairs arm Powell Tate. Prior to returning to Australia in 2013, Alistair was based in Beijing China for 13 years where he worked in senior government relations and public affairs roles with international firms Edelman and Weber Shandwick, and where he ran his own public affairs firm for seven years.

Alistair said: "I'm looking forward to working with the team at Cornerstone. I was attracted by its entrepreneurial spirit, interesting clients, and the 'can-do' attitude of everyone at the firm. The prospect of working closely with luminaries and former federal ministers like Simon Crean and Peter Hendy is very exciting."

During the past five years in Australia Alistair provided counsel to a range of international clients involved in high profile government relations and issues & crisis management projects in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. He has also worked with Chinese companies investing in Australia and with Australian companies operating in the China market. 

Alistair was Australia's Trade Commissioner to the World Bank and United Nations from 1996 to 2000. Earlier in his career Alistair worked in journalism, economic policy, and was an advisor on international trade to the Federal Coalition, working in the offices of successive Shadow Ministers for Trade Charles Blunt, The Hon. Alexander Downer, The Hon. Andrew Peacock and The Hon. Tim Fischer. 

Alistair holds a number of business and industry advisory roles including as a member of the Food and Agriculture Committee of the Australian China Business Council; as honorary media counsel to the Australia-China Chamber of Commerce; and, as a member of the private sector advisory panel to the China Business Research Network of Macquarie University. Alistair is also a member of the board of international not-for-profit Welcome To My Yard, which is a social enterprise organisation working with at risk street-based children in Nepal.

Alistair holds a BA (Hons) in political science from the University of New South Wales, and a Certificate in Executive Leadership from Cornell University.
